| Where to put new program |

I have installed Image Scan! for Linux in the past for use with my Epson scanner, but in a different distro, and want to install it on one of my LL5 computers, since it gives me many more options than the included Document Scanner. Always before this, as well as I can recall, the tar.gz file extracted everything without my giving it any input as to where to put things. This time, the default location shows as my Downloads folder, where the tar.gz file is located. That's NOT where I want things put. But where should I install it?
I could put it in /Home, but I think somewhere in / would be tidier, if the program would work there and show up in my Graphics menu. Would /usr be a good place? Or is somewhere else in / better? Obviously, the location for the files may (almost) be irrelevent, but I'd prefer to install it where it would be best.
I had hoped that after 7 1/2 years of using Linux, I would no longer have any questions, but Reality let me know otherwise. :016:
Thanks in advance for any advice. :bow

| Linux Lite not booting when I turn computer on |

Hi,
Newb here, loving Linux Lite but can't figure out how to get my computer to boot it on turning it on. I did the dual install of Linux Lite and windows, and at one point I think I chose to have Windows 10 give me a choice which OS to use when I turn the computer on, but it doesn't do that. Instead it just goes straight into Windows again.
So the only way I can use Linux Lite is by going (in Windows) Settings > Recovery > advanced Restart > Restart from USB etc and then I select Ubuntu, and it restarts and boots Linux instead of Windows. Not what I want to be doing every time obviously!
If anyone can help me, I'd much appreciate it.
Another question, unrelated, is can I get access to all my files in Windows from Linux Lite? I.e. documents, pictures, etc. Or do I need to download them from the cloud? Thanks again.
Adrian

The help manual has suggested I visit the forum to request help with dual booting windows on another physical drive. I want to dual-boot Windows and Linux Lite, with Linux Lite on its own dedicated physical drive. Thanks

Hi Guys,
I'm puzzling over this one. :032: Just trying to backup a 4GB USB stick to DVD. Want to use the stick to install LL5.6.
Copied the contents to Hard Disk, then tried to write to DVD using xfburn. Appeared to complete without any problems, but didn't hang about to watch it.
I note there is no Verify option in xfburn. Is there an alternative that has that feature?
Anyway, to workaround, then used an old Windows Utility (WinDiff) on a Windows PC to do a bitwise compare of the source and DVD data.
Thus discovered that 300-odd files where missing from the DVD. They are "randomly" scattered throughout the source, typically one or two files per bottom-level directory. Mainly the most important files. >
I suspected that the file structure went too deep, but as I understand, the maximum path length is 256 (or is it 255?) characters. Did a sample check, found it was only 156 characters deep. The missing files are on the Hard Disk...
Could it be I have filenames that are too long, or what is the likely problem, please? Is the path/filename length different on Optical media?
The fact that these omissions happen silently is a bit scary! :o

I want to copy some MP3s from college classes to my iPhone 11 from my Linux Lite laptop. Do I need some kind of special software for that? A Starpage search seems to lead either to some proprietary app solution or only works on older versions of IOS (Apple's phone OS). I bet it's a lot easier on an Android phone, lol.
If anyone can help, thanks in advance!
