  LuckyBackup not working in LL50
Posted by: arky217 - 08-10-2020, 06:36 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (17)

When you install LuckyBackup, it puts two options in the menu.
Normal LuckyBackup and LuckyBackup as superuser.
With LuckyBackup, the command is /usr/bin/luckybackup.
With LuckyBackup as superuser, the command is /usr/bin/luckybackup-pkexec.

I save to an external hard drive and with the regular LuckyBackup, it always failed because
of not having the correct permission, so I always used the superuser LuckyBackup.
(This was with LL48)

Well, the superuser LuckyBackup always worked just fine in LL48, but in LL50, it gives the following error
when you use the terminal to start it:

 /usr/bin/luckybackup-pkexec
qt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: eglfs, linuxfb, minimal, minimalegl, offscreen, vnc, xcb.

Aborted

Anyone know what the problem could be ?

  wireless icon

Hi, i install Linuxlite 10 on an old Asus laptop. Very good indeed. But no wireless icon appear in the system tray. At home, no problem, the laptop was connected during the install. But if I bring my laptop anywhere else, impossible to connect, impossible to choose and contact a local box.
How can I make the icon appear or open the wireless window ? Thanks.

  Network NAS isn't visible
Posted by: tuckj1958 - 08-10-2020, 04:21 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

I installed Linux 5 and everything worked out of the box on my system. However at some point after the initial updates to the system, my home network NAS has disappeared from the network folder and I only see "Linus Networt" and Windows Network, neither of which I can log into. Anyone know what has happened and how to fix this?

Thanks

  Firewall Configuration Application Won't Open
Posted by: chaosjs0010 - 08-10-2020, 02:51 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Hello to all, I have noticed that on this install oddly enough the firewall configuration application won't open and therefore I cannot get into it to either turn the firewall off completely or reconfigure it as need for example for a printer usb shared network server as needed! Is there any possible fix or workaround to this problem??  Thanks for listening and have a great day as well..

Safe, Private, Easy Way to Test Connection Speed?
Posted by: flipperpull - 08-09-2020, 09:17 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

Hi, learning user for Linux and Linux Lite here. I am wondering what is the best, most private, and easy way to test Internet connection speed? I have concerns re: speedtest.net as it apparently collects much data. Is there a good way to run a utility, preferably with a GUI, that tells me how fast a connection is?

Thanks!

Editing to add: I am hoping to get the Mbps max download speed of a new connection, like what Speedtest.net does, only more private. I tried CBM (Color Bandwidth Meter), but it seems to be just monitoring the speed of current usage, unless I understand it wrong.

error message- error: attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hdo'.
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 08-09-2020, 04:16 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

I couldn't take a screenshot of the message as this is occurring when I start up an older Dell Latitude D610.  The message in full is:

error: attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hdo'.
error: attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hdo'.

Press any key to continue..._

I am simply wondering what this means and if I need to do anything?

It will boot into LL 3.8 regardless of whether I "press any key to continue" or simply when I wait it will automatically boot up and in fact it pulls up the LL 3.8 login screen faster if I simply wait rather than pressing a key.  It then appears to function fine and so far I have not experienced any issues.

The specs on this laptop are: RAM 2 GB; HD 130 GB; Pentium M 1.73 GHz

I loaded LL 3.8 from a USB that I made from a new install on which I had made a bunch of changes (added various programs that I always want on each install, etc).  I have used this same USB for the past 4-6 months with no issues.

I have used this same USB for two other laptops that I received at the same time (about 2 weeks ago) and while they are newer models (I use that loosely!) I do not get this message.

I did see a similar post with the same first line, however theirs didn't have the option to "press any key to continue" and sounds like they had bigger issues...

LL 5 on Newer AMD Ryzen Laptops no go?
Posted by: icedigger - 08-09-2020, 02:56 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

I have a Dell G5 with Ryzen 4800H w/built in Vega iGPU AND Radeon 5600M 6GB video card built in.

When I put in the boot stick it always stops at "amdgpu error fail to stop psp ring"

Any ideas?  Dying to get linux on this beast of a machine.

I'm running LinuxLiteOS with default GUI mode. I want to set some startup scripts but not sure where to start?

Do you know how linuxliteOS startup? Any related to /etc/rcx.d? Any RunLevel documentations we can follow?

Thanks.
