I just changed to Linux Lite from Mint. I had no problems with Mint recognizing or printing with the above printer. In Lite the only way I can print anything is to the access the printer via the usb port. Any tips would sure be appreciated.
I am a fairly new linux user.
Thanks

New installing LinuxLite 6.6 Idk how to partition a new installation without Win
Posted by: Edimion - 04-01-2024, 11:10 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

Hi,

I don't want have Windows anymore, I've read many questions in this forum, the guide and that didn't help me.
I know some of this steps installing but that guide with DUAL booting of Linux Lite really made me confused... (https://www.868212.xyz/manual/insta...legacymode)
To make it clear I'd give you some info of my PC

My bios is Legacy BIOS
I only want to install LinuxLite 6.6 with at last 4 partitions: grub/boot , /(ext4), home(ext4) and swap partition

My main doubt is the FIRST partition the one for the grub/boot .That's because with some Debian distros I only need one with at least 500Mb label as unformatted ,grub, bios... if I remember well.

Please ,help me. Thanks in advance

  libxz backdoors in upstream versions
Posted by: trinidad - 04-01-2024, 02:35 PM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (4)

I heard about this last week but now the community has addressed the issue. Nothing I run was affected and Ubuntu and Debian both announced their Stable OS versions were not affected. Interesting article also listing distros affected at the link below.

https://www.helpnetsecurity.com/2024/03/...d-distros/

The link below is to the guy who discovered the vulnerability. It also provides a vulnerability checking bash script which I ran on all my systems.

Just another reason why runnng Ubuntu LTS and/or Debian Stable is your best bet.TC

  Problem with booting after instalatiom
Posted by: skom - 03-30-2024, 04:23 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

I installed Linux Lite 6.6 on the hard disk (there is only one system on the disk and in the PC). Unfortunately, when trying to boot, the error "XE-E53: No boot filename received" appears, I have to select the boot source every time - the disk, which is set as bootable in the BIOS anyway.

Hi everyone.

Though not new to Linux, first experimented in the dark days back in 1999, a lot has changed, and for me Linux lite has succeeded where the heavier distros have failed

  Deepin Desktop
Posted by: lc6529 - 03-23-2024, 12:56 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

Has anyone ever tried installed the Deepin desktop?

My wife has a computer I'm switching to Linux Lite but she has seen me working with Deepin on a laptop.

I don't use Deepin as my main OS, that workstation still runs Linux Lite but I do enjoy tinkering with it on a laptop I use for testing different OS's such as reactOS and others.

https://www.deepin.org/index/en

Anyway I installed Linux Lite 6.6 on a virtual box and tried the instructions found here
https://itsfoss.com/install-deepin-ubuntu/

with the thought I could wipe out her Windows Box (it needs a complete reload) and install Linux Lite with the deepin de desktop.

But alas it crashes with 'unmet dependencies' issues and if I run apt --fix-broken install the terminal just scrolls with 'y' over and over.

I admit I am not an expert which is why I am posting.

  Lite and wireless adaptors (usb)
Posted by: Linxer2 - 03-21-2024, 11:21 PM - Forum: Network - Replies (14)

Greetings all.
I have been gradually repurposing an ancient relic with a fresh offline install of Linux Lite. I have realized that I am one device short to give it wifi capability. Acer Aspire one notebook, no usb 3.0, and internal network card has long since been dead.

This is kind of an easy forum cause I'm only looking for suggestions (steps may vary). One thing I know out of the box is that rigging a usb wifi adapter to work on linux is a nightmare. I have yet to decide on a device from the store, and wonder which kind if adapter stick plays nice with linux. If anything, I would like for this to be more of a planner to make this less of a headache before beginning. I attempted to get a wifi stick to work once in the past on a different system and despite many terminal instructions was never able to, so I can sense what I'm in for.

I know the steps may change depending on which device (adapter) is used, but that's why I wanted to ask here. Anyone recommend something universal on what adapter i should order?
If it's all the same in the end, is there any specific forum or instruction page that perfectly illustrates step-by-step how to properly install any wifi adapter? {Please assume that usb 3.0 is not possible and that the wifi adapter in question does not have linux-specific installation media/disk}.

Note: it is possible to hook directly into Ethernet for any updates, just not permanently. I have not yet connected this 'fresh' install of Linux Lite to the internet. If I need to update anything before installing the stick using Ethernet, please let me know.

Other relevant Info:

ACER modle: Aspire One D257 - 13404
Lite version: 3.8 (32 bit)

> The internal network card adapter inside the unit is 100% fried, so instructions on internal network cards should not be included as valid solutions on this post.

Latest update disabled the video display on chrome related browsers
Posted by: FunkAndCode - 03-21-2024, 06:09 AM - Forum: Updates - Replies (6)

Hi everyone,

I'm just reporting that the last update introduced a little :banghead bug  :60:

I no longer have the video display on Youtube, Dailymotion etc with Brave browser, same with Google chrome.
But it still works fine on Firefox. I saw a similar topic but it's not related to tweaks for me (since I didn't use it)
Audio still works fine, images too it's only the video display that is fully white.

I hope it will be fixed soon, anyway have a good day all  :wave

  Config w/multiple Wifi adapters?
Posted by: kramyugtaht - 03-21-2024, 03:48 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (3)

I tried LXLE (looking for a LTS based distro) and there was not an easy/easily found way to choose my USB wifi adapter which has better range and which I also want to test for use with a laptop that I hope to use a light distro for. I have a Qualcomm Atheros in my Dell desktop (168c:0032) and a Realtek based USB adapter, 8812BU (0BDA:B812) - when I type in inxi-N it showed the Qualcomm as up and Realtek as down, but I couldn't find CLI instructions on how to enable the Realtek USB adapter even if it recognizes it's there and has a corresponding driver. My understanding is it's now supported through the kernel right? I had another USB adapter which was recognized but I think it was in down status as well and it just defaults to the Qualcomm.

If I use Linux Lite, which I am guessing may be better supported anyway is there built-in tools that can make this easy? Or can I install a GUI network manager of some kind to make the Realtek adapter work?
