| No startup indicator for some apps |

I am curious about that fact that when I start some apps via double-click on desktop I see a small spinning arrow indicating that it is starting up but on other apps I don't. I am running Linux Lite 6.4 on a Sony VAIO VGN-C290 circa Windows Vista (Intel Core 2, 2GB memory) so it is understandable that apps will startup slowly but some are so slow that I often wonder whether my double-click was ineffective (Startpage browser is an example). Is there anything I can do to always get an indicator of an app starting up?

From the notification:
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 4608 (apt-get)
E: Unable to acquire the dpkg frontend lock (/var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend), is another process using it?
Advice needed.......please?
Jim.

Hi, I've downloaded some Firefox appimages of different versions and also tested with locally installed latest stable version, but when I try to open a file or whatever menu that needs to load a file it does nothing and the terminal shows this output:
Code: Gtk-WARNING **: 18:35:18.938: Can't open portal file chooser: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop was not provided by any .service files
[Parent 67919, Main Thread] WARNING: invalid (NULL) pointer instance: 'glib warning', file /builds/worker/checkouts/gecko/toolkit/xre/nsSigHandlers.cpp:167
Any ideas of what happens? Thanks in advance.

My update error log is below. It provides a dpkg command to run but when I do so I get a message about needing superuser privileges. How do I get past this. I am the only user.
Edit: Never mind. I just realized that the "sudo" prefix is the answer.
