Do workarounds exist for USB3.0 incompatibility with Oracle Virtualbox?
Posted by: m654321 - 05-04-2015, 10:05 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

For those who run virtual machines using Oracle Virtual Box, you may have discovered
that Oracle doesn't support USB 3.0 ports.

If LL is using USB 3.0 drivers, I would assume that disabling them would let USB work
in the default 2.0 mode, and that this would therefore enable compatibility with Oracle VBox?

Would this workaround really work and has anyone tried it?  I get the impression that Oracle
are not in a hurry to upgradeto USB3.0 compatibility. It would be useful to default to USB2.0
compatibility to allow access to pendrive files, printers, etc via the USB ports.

Many thanks for any feedback on this one.
Regards
Mike

How do I set up a standard user a/c in win8.1 in win/LL dual boot?
Posted by: m654321 - 05-04-2015, 06:18 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

This may be a strange question to ask in an LL forum but I'll give it a go...
I have a UEFI enabled LL2.4/win8.1 dual-boot system.
My Problem is that I would like to be able to set of a standard user (no password) and administrator (password protected) accounts on win8.1, but don't know how to do it.

Whenever I've used win7, I always set up two accounts:
1. a standard user a/c for day-to-day running, including the internet (no password, limited privileges)
2. a system administrator account (password protected) for making changes to the computer; never used for surfing on internet.

However, I've just bought a new laptop and of course it came preloaded with win8.1. Setting up a standard user a/c on this OS, is not as clear as in win7: the same buttons
to click on aren't there under user a/c settings.

At the moment, with win8.1, I have a local a/c that is marked administrator, and this screen presents itself whenever I boot into win8.1 from the grub screen, and it asks for a password.
I don't want to use this password protected a/c to surf the internet, as having entered my password, I am therefore giving permission to anything it meets on the internet
(e.g. malware) to modify my computer if it so wishes.  Therefore, how do I set up a standard user a/c in win8.1 to allow safe surfing on the internet? I didn't find anything
useful when I searched online with Google.

Many thanks for any clarification on this.

Mike

Desktop crashes after flash player fullscreen
Posted by: UltraCookie - 05-03-2015, 08:30 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

When I go into fullscreen on a flash video in Firefox and want to leave fullscreen the desktop crashes completely.
I can hit the lock key and get to the login screen but when I log back in the display turns black again.

It only happens with the flash player (the the shockwave flash plugin?). HTML5 player and VLC work fine.

[Solved] How do I move the panel from the bottom of the screen to the top?
Posted by: Lend27 - 05-03-2015, 05:20 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I checked the panel preferences and it doesnt seem to give an option to move to the top.
I see horizontal, vertical, and deskbar. Is there a way to just move it to the top?

Thanks!

How do you remove LL safely from a UEFI enabled LL/Win8.1 dual boot setup
Posted by: m654321 - 05-03-2015, 06:28 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Don't worry - I am not about to leave LL...  Sometimes though (actually, quite a lot recently!!), I've had to remove LL from the above setup and reinstall it from scratch to set up the dual boot again. Is deleting the LL partition, either through win8.1's Disk Management or through LL's Gparted, enough i.e. does it constitute 'safe removal'...  for example would a registry cleaner need to be run for win8.1 to fix any possible registry problems that might be incurred following LL deletion?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Old Macbook won't wake from sleep
Posted by: belltoes - 05-02-2015, 06:01 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Hi there,

I have Linux Lite installed on an old 2006 Macbook and it won't wake from sleep when I close the lid. When the lid opens, the login screen shows briefly, then the monitor seems to turn off. (It seems as though the monitor is off when the lid is closed as well, so the screen does come on for a few seconds to show the log in screen). I have to then hold the power button and the computer shuts down. Then I have to press it again to turn on the computer.

I've only been able to find things related to nvidia drivers for Macbook Pro, but this machine has integrated graphics.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

  Teamviewer will not autostart
Posted by: kjacobs - 05-02-2015, 04:03 PM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

I just built a new clean Linux Lite 2.4 machine and installed Teamviewer from the Lite Software installer. I cannot seem to get it to autostart at system boot as it should after checking marking the autostart option. This works on my main desktop LL machine. However, Teamviewer was installed on this machine prior to running the 2.4 upgrade.....whereas the new machine is a fresh install of LL2.4

Any thoughts as to why TV will not autostart and how to get that working? ???

Thanks,
Ken

  Firefox crashes constantly
Posted by: topsy - 05-02-2015, 06:37 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

When I installed Linuxlite 2.4 recently, everything seemed alright. I decided to update the system. After doing so, Firefox

was totally unstable and crashed often. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I install the older Firefox? SadIt seems that

Firefox crashes only when I access my Internet Provider (i.e. telus.com). Is there any reason for this? I thank you for the 3

replies. BTW, my system tells me the CLI commands offered do not exist!  topsy.

New User - Need some desktop Icon help please
Posted by: Lend27 - 04-30-2015, 05:10 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (12)

How can I restore the original desktop icon theme? I don't like the balloons around the text. Somehow I changed them playing with appearance.
Also, where are the original desktop wallpapers located?

Thanks!

I absolutely love this distro. The absolute best I have tried. I have been able to do everything I need.
Thanks for all the hard work you guys have put into this!  It really shows!
