  Linux Lite Release Roadmap
Posted by: valtam - 01-02-2015, 09:54 AM - Forum: Release Announcements - Replies (89)

The following is a tentative release schedule for Linux Lite as listed here - https://www.868212.xyz/code.html#roadmap

Starting with Linux Lite 3.0 I'd like to remove the numbering from releases. I don't think Linux Lite 7.4 sounds particularly appealing. The codenames for release builds are named after gemstones in alphabetical order - to date we've had Amethyst (1.0 series) and Beryl (2.0 series). The third major release (based on Ubuntu 16.04LTS) will be named: Linux Lite Citrine. I'd welcome suggestions on how we can distinguish between each release build for the Citrine series, so it will read like the following: Linux Lite Citrine xxx, xxx representing the tack-on name.

Linux Lite 2.0 'Beryl' Release - 1st June, 2014

Linux Lite 2.2 Release - 1st December, 2014

Linux Lite 2.4 Release - 1st April, 2015

Linux Lite 2.6 Release - 1st September, 2015

Linux Lite 2.8 Release - 1st February, 2016 (End of Support April 2019)

Linux Lite 3.0 'Citrine' Release - 1st June 2016

Linux Lite 3.2 Release - 1st November 2016

Linux Lite 3.4 Release - 1st April 2017

Linux Lite 3.6 Release - 1st September 2017

Linux Lite 3.8 Release - 1st February 2018 (End of Support April 2021)

Linux Lite 4.0 'Diamond' Release - 1st June 2018

Linux Lite 4.2 Release - 1st November 2018

Linux Lite 4.4 Release - 1st April 2019

Linux Lite 4.6 Release - 1st September 2019

Linux Lite 4.8 Release - 1st February 2020 (End of Support April 2023)

  [SOLVED] Upgrading to LL2.0+
Posted by: ultrastevep - 12-31-2014, 10:11 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

I have to say that I love Linux Lite....I loaded it on my PC earlier this year with a dual boot with W7 and almost always go directly to LL. It's faster and so much nicer to use.

Now the problem...I have been trying for months to upgrade from 1.06 to the latest with no luck. I am not that computer savvy, so getting it on in the first place was a challenge. Also, when I did an update several months ago, it updated me to 1.08 and now nothing works right. The software Install/uninstall program no longer works, I get an error message and even Chrome that was working fine, is now telling me it's out of date. I have read other posts on here about how to do it and it is just too overwhelming to back up my whole computer, format the space where LL is and attempt a re-load.

I feel like if I could just get it up to date to the latest it would fix everything....at this point, I'm ready to go back to W7 (which I need for some certain softwares i use), but don't want to give up this great SW! If I didn't need W7 for some things I use (Itunes, Garmin, etc.), I'd just overwrite the computer with all LL...but I'm really concerned ab[size=1em]out doing that.[/size] :-\

Any shortcuts to do this that anyone has found?
Thanks,
Steve

[SOLVED] Terminal emulator & GRUB coloring
Posted by: arman1992 - 12-31-2014, 09:57 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (19)

Hi. Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm new to Linux Lite and so far, satisfied with it! A little suggestion. Just if the coloring of terminal emulator and grub was in harmony with the white and gray atmosphere of the distro...

  Lite Fonts
Posted by: valtam - 12-31-2014, 06:16 PM - Forum: Linux Lite Software Development - Replies (11)

Introducing Lite Fonts - an easy way to complement your existing font set with the remainder of the stock MS fonts.

Code:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install lite-fonts

If I have missed any stock MS fonts, please let me know, better still supply me with a link so I can download and add them.
We won't be adding any of your 'favorite' fonts, this is for stock MS fonts only commonly used in MS Office products, so please don't post saying "can you please add the Star Wars font to this set", or Webdings Smile

This set also includes the Google Noto font set.

This package will be installed by default in LL 2.4

[SOLVED] Making A Former Windows User feel at home ---
Posted by: greenisland - 12-31-2014, 03:02 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

I am new here but am very impressed.  I run a small office and it has been my goal for a long time to find a professional-looking distribution that my windows-familiar staff could learn to use easily.  Thanks for producing what you've done so far, and I look forward to hanging around.

One thing I thought I would mention is that if the goal is to go after former windows users, and you want to make them feel at home, you might want to consider talking about the latest Kingsoft office for linux version -- http://www.wps.com/

If you set the user interface for "classic" , the word processor and the spreadsheet look for all the world like Microsoft Word and Excel from about 2003 -- very professional looking and feature rich.  I've just started playing with it so I can't vouch for it, but boy does it make me feel at home from my windows days.  I'm not a fan of the "ribbon" interface that Microsoft adopted (many years ago) but I gather that Kingsoft's ribbon is pretty familiar-looking too.
