desktop rez changes/can't access taskbar after playing game w/Wine
Posted by: Monkeyman - 08-31-2014, 05:20 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (7)

I just installed Wine and was able to play a Windows (.exe file) game (nothing big).  When I exited the game, I found that the desktop resolution had changed (would have been good had I been 50 feet away Smile ) and I couldn't access the taskbar.  I had to reboot to get back to normal.  What would have caused this and how can I avoid it in the future?  I have a few things I'd like to run using Wine.

Thanks!

SiS Graphic Card Support (771/671 PCIE VGA)
Posted by: lidiaz - 08-29-2014, 07:25 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (11)

Hi!

It's my first time using linux and I know nothing about driver installing.

I have an issue with the display resolution (it gives me no video options) and just found out there's actually an incompatibility between some Ubuntu-based distros and the SiS Graphic Cards, specially the 771/671 version.

For some versions of Ubuntu I found the support, but simply couldn't understand it!!!

Does anyone knows if Linux Lite 2.0 has any kind of bug fix, update or anything that could be done to install this SiS graphic card driver?
And, if so, would anyone please try to explain it in a way that a linux begginer completely dummy could understand? =D

Thanks a lot!
Sorry for the bad english..

  Computer slow after clean install
Posted by: bobw - 08-29-2014, 05:48 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

My computer is a 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 desktop with 2GB ram, model HP t741.uk.  I installed LL 1.0.8 earlier this year, dual booting with Windows XP, and it worked very well.

I recently installed LL 2.0 as a clean install, without the Windows dual boot.  The system has now become very slow.  There is a time lag between keyboard input and text appearing on the screen; the mouse pointer does not move smoothly, there is a time lag when scrolling, etc.

I have used the same install disk to put LL 2.0 on another old PC (Dell) with a similar spec, but only 1 GB of ram, and it works perfectly well.  I have also tried a clean install of Peppermint 5 on the HP machine and experienced the same problems as with LL 2.0.

I'm no expert, but I suspect that the problem may be caused by the BIOS.  The machine originally had a recovery partition.  The HP website says that only BIOS updates from HP, rather than the motherboard manufacturer, should be installed, but they only provide BIOS software for Windows operating systems.  The recovery partition was deleted when I installed LL 2.0.

A  system report is attached.

Can anybody help, please?

Bob

  Help Manual Optimization
Posted by: Scott(0) - 08-29-2014, 03:21 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

I noticed this recent png optimization to the help manual:

Quote:Version: 2.0 | Date published: 28th August, 2014
New: Applied optimum compression to all .png files to reduce overall size of Manual.

It loads noticeably faster on my system. Thanks.  8)

  Hello from Indiana
Posted by: Monkeyman - 08-29-2014, 11:31 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (8)

Hi, all.  I'm a relative Linux noob from Indiana.  I tried a version of Ubuntu a while back and couldn't get the hang of it so I reverted to Win7.  Figured I'd try Linux again with Linux Lite.  Got it installed and already having problems (I set the taskbar/panel to autohide and it won't, even after a reboot).  Hellova thing to be frustrated right out of the box.  Anyway, I'll give this a shot.

  [SOLVED] HP officejet 6500 problem
Posted by: Alex - 08-29-2014, 04:30 AM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (4)

The printer worked from startup but it does not function properly. When I look at the printer properties I get a very shortened menu that reflects none of the extensive properties for this printer. I tried re-installing all the drivers from the software centre but there was no change:

This is a screen shot as it is now:

Cannot get one as it was before but there were many more than 20 different settings, including a fast ink-saving option.

Any ideas please?

  Kwin

I did a search for kwin but 0 results, so I assume that no one else has had this problem:

I followed Spatry's instructions to the letter (I think) on his Youtube video on installing this on LL, but it did not work:
