nm-connection-editor fails when no icon present

** (nm-connection-editor:1997): WARNING **: Icon nm-device-wired missing: Error opening file: No such file or directory
** (nm-connection-editor:1997): WARNING **: Failed to initialize the UI, exiting
Not sure why a missing icon is causing the UI to crash but in the Gnome theme Icons it fails every time.
After changing the icon theme the nm-connection-editor works.
If the icon pack does not have an icon for nm-connection-editor is there a way to set an Icon for the applet that is permanent.
If so do I need to assign it in pixmaps or themes. As I am not sure if this is a network issue or a theme issue.

I have been reading on internet about a virus affecting Linux servers. Is there a need for antivirus on desktop Linux now?
I share files sometimes with my PPC iMac and e-mail people using Windows.

Ok I initially had problems with shutting down after I used NDISWRAPPER. I managed to change the etc/init.d/halt script and I was able to shutdown with no problems.
Then I decided that I wanted to make a shutdown icon and place it on the desktop. While I attempt this a suggestion pops up but when I try it, It gives me more options to as restart shutdown etc. So I am trying to avoid so many steps I want to shutdown directly.
So I have tested many commands to use for this on the command window and most of them hang my machine.
It does not hang when I use the GUI as I said. What is the command that is evoked when I click shutdown on the GUI?
I want to use the same one for my special OFF button.
Thanks

Nvivida card not found after upgrade

Hi,
I'm going from (my brain’s) memory since I can't really boot LL 1.06 now. I got a new monitor, a Neovo F-419. Dual booting XP and XP works OK with new monitor. When I booted LL the resolution was very low (icons were huge) and it worked but so big it was unusable. I have nvivida card so went into nvivida settings to increase resolutions but got a message within nvivida settings that it could not do that and said I should upgrade driver. I went into Synaptic and saw i was using driver 173 ver. I saw nvidia current as 304 and checked/installed that. LL booted to black/blank screen, I did see a message at some point while booting that nvidia video adapter was "not found".
I then rebooted into recovery mode with most recent I have kernel: 3.2.0. 60 generic-pae . I then tried "Drop to root shell" to maybe reinstall or try another nvidia driver, or something to fix(?). But when I did that it says "Give root password for Maintenance (or type Control-D to Continue):". Password or anything I've tried does not work here, cntrl-D just takes me back to recovery menu.
I'm at a dead end. What can I do?
Thanks.

Using Youtube on Older Machines

I installed Linux Lite 1.0.8 on a Emachines T2341. I can't get any videos to work. No YouTube or embedded videos. I'm thinking that maybe the computer itself. The video will start to work, a black screen, then will quickly disappear. The old computer is very hard to find a video card that will work, ddr. I installed Lite on a brand new 160 G HHD. It was very speedy at first then I let Lite upgrade and it became very slow and sticky after that.
I have Lite installed on and older Acer small laptop and it works great on it. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get Lite to work better?

Hi,
Using Nvidia 304.116 drivers on Geforce 6150 LE integrated graphics.
So I started and my screen resolution was set as 1024x768, where it should be 1440x900. I tried to manually change the resolution, but it did not show my screen resolution anymore as an option. Even if I changed to another option, the changes didn't stick and it reverted back to 1024x768.
Then I tried both detecting the screen and manually setting the resolution in the advanced options, but no joy, it reverted back to 1024x768.
Then I tried uninstalling Nvidia drivers by going into recovery mode by holding the shift key while restarting, but it says loading Grub menu and then the screen goes blank...forever. I can't figure out how to get into recovery mode to uninstall.
Then I tried changing to version 173 drivers and my screen resolution went to 640x480, I think, and I could no longer even get into the Nvidia configuration, nothing happened when I click the Icon.
So then I tried changing to version 96 drivers and now I can't even get into LL, screen goes blank after the BIOS screen closes.
I am only using this computer for the internet, so the only changes I have made for many months are running the updates. I have not installed any software or made any other changes.
Not sure to what to do at this point, I'd rather not have to reinstall. I have an old backup I could restore, but I assume I will run into the same problem when I run the updates?
Thanks for any help.

Good evening,
I live in England. I have managed to install LinuxLite on a second HDD on my PC and I can dual-boot. I wanted a system to take over from XP. So far so good... I shall probably be asking for advice as I go along. I have already posted a query in another part of this forum.
Best wishes
