  System unreponsive at suspend
Posted by: Sepehr - 11-14-2022, 08:50 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Just installed Linux Lite 6.2 x64 on an old PC (Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300, 12GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 210) and after clicking on "Suspend" (or "Hybrid Sleep"), it turns the screen off and maybe also the HDD, but the CPU and PSU fans keeps spinning and the system won't respond to any input from the keyboard/mouse, leaving only the option of manual restart.

I've also noticed that before the system fully boots, a scrambled screen gets briefly displayed. Not sure if it's because of my NVIDIA card or if it's related to the suspend problem, but the "Additional Drivers" tab says nothing is available.

How do I fix this?

[EDIT]: I installed Mint 21(XFCE) and now everything works fine. Mint took longer to install (compared to Lite) which makes me think a missing package in Lite was causing the problem with Suspend.

Repositories which fail and need to be removed - but are not in sources.list??
Posted by: gotLL - 11-12-2022, 04:48 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

Hello,
I need to clean out a repository PPA that I added by mistake

The URL is: https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu bionic InRelease

I've gone into the etc/apt/sources.list and deleted it from file - and then performed the "sudo apt update"
It is still appearing however as an update error

So apparently deleting it from the source.list file was not sufficient to remove it
I then tried to remove them using synaptic - but synaptic does not show it.
I assume Synaptic is reading the sources.list file

I then tried the command:
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa: https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu bionic InRelease

And this returns an error - need a single repository as argument

I'm stumpted!
Can anyone help!
Sincere thanks

UPS - Tripp Lite 750A - How To Configure Shut Down?
Posted by: lc6529 - 11-12-2022, 01:53 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Linux Newbie here,  I just replaced my CyberPower UPS With A Tripp Lite 750A.

Linux 'saw' the CyberPower and I had the ability to set a timeout to shut down when the power went out.

If I look under the hardware/usb I see Tripp Lite Internet750U listed among the hardware but I don't have the little utility I saw on my
task bar to configure the shut down like I did with the CyberPower

Any suggestions?

Installing on a Qnap NAS VM
Posted by: ozstar - 11-10-2022, 08:12 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

On install it asks what ubuntu, I said 12.04 LTS and it asks Legacy or UEFI  What one of I choose.

I tried to install Zorin 16 before on the VM but it keeps freezing so hope this is better.

BTW Where can I download it?  It this but it says, Failed Not a bootable Disk  - Could not read from CDROM.

Okay found it.

EDIT:  All okay now. It is installing now and seems okay.
Yes it installed on a Qnap NAS inside a VM and now I have done my first backup.

Change DNS server URL - to Pi-Hole server?
Posted by: gotLL - 11-09-2022, 06:07 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Hello All,
I have Linux Lite 3.8 on an older 32bit laptop
The Ubuntu version is 16.04

I've recently built a Pi-Hole system
When I select "Network" in the Linux settings - I can change the default IP address to my PI-hole address - and the system works.
But as soon as I restart the OS - it reverts back to the default IP address.

Can anyone tell me what file I should update with my PI-Hole's IP address - so that it becomes the default DNS IP address?
Sincere thanks!

What folder do are the panel icons located in?
Posted by: gotLL - 11-09-2022, 05:57 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello all,
I would like to create a few custom icons to add to the panel.
For example - I would like to create a new icon for the "Wisker Menu" on the panel.
When I open up the panel options - to select a different icon - I am hoping I can discover the folder in which these icons are located so that I can import the custom icons into that folder.

But the system does not indicate where that folder is located
And I've not been successful and doing searches for files that are in that folder -in order to get the path for that folder.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Translations are underway - Menu Entries
Posted by: valtam - 11-09-2022, 04:57 AM - Forum: Linux Lite Software Development - Replies (3)

The first phase of Translations has begun.

I've recently quit my full-time job and taken on a new job that is part time. This will allow me to contribute more time to this project  ;D

The easiest and less time demanding way to tackle translations, is to translate the Menu entries or .desktop files. This will address much of the feedback I have received to date about incomplete translation in the OS.

The root of the project is here - https://www.transifex.com/linux-lite/ (Sign in or Sign up first).

From there, you can choose a Lite application and it's .desktop file and begin translating (you will need to register first and then request to join the Linux Lite Team).

Once you've done all that, the website is pretty intuitive. At some point, I'll get around to doing a full tutorial, but to be honest, from what I've seen in other projects, if you have performed translations before, you can work the other stuff out too.

A good place to start is the Lite Autologin or Lite Desktop projects. These already have all the languages in place, Lite Tweaks does not.
For me, adding just one new Lite application to Transiflex takes a long time, so you can imagine adding all of the Lite apps will take a very long time, but I will chip away at it and get them all up eventually.

Have fun translating!

Thank you Smile

========================================================

Quick tutorial:

- Register on the site (see above)

- Click on a Lite app on the left hand side:

- Click on Translate on the right side:

- Select a Language to translate to:

- You ONLY need to translate the Description. Please DO NOT translate anything else for the Menu entry files:

- To finish, click on Save Translation on the right.
