what kind of printer should I buy?
Posted by: trinidad - 10-10-2022, 01:43 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (12)

Printer OEMs have begun to adapt standards for driverless printers because of the massive proliferation of cell phones and the need to print from those devices. This is a good thing for the future of desktop Linux printer compatibility given that Linux will be able to easily use those protocols without the need for printer specific proprietary drivers. Modern printers will all be changing to these protocols so Linux may finally be rid of OEM printer driver nuisance.

Linux Lite 6.2[rc1] 3d party Nvidia video driver install fail
Posted by: Mike Iwantprivacy - 10-09-2022, 03:49 PM - Forum: Video Cards - No Replies

Problem - after installing LL 6.2[RC1] I am unable to install the proprietary Nvidia driver for my video card.

Process - clean install of LL6.2 [RC1]
      - go to "Settings" - "Install Drivers"  scan for 3d party hardware / drivers.

Result  - no 3rd party drivers found.

Expected result - Detect the video card  [Nvidia 8600m] and give option to choose between Nouveau driver, or Proprietary Nvidia driver [version 340.108]

This worked in Linux lite 5.8.

Impact - poor video performance in multiple apps.

--Note I tossed this in as a bug report because It is NOT a hardware issue. Nor is it an issue with the Video card. Its an issue with the "Install Drivers" software of linux lite. 6.2/

Network connection and software update icons disappear
Posted by: Natrixx - 10-09-2022, 12:41 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Hiya.

It's happened to me a few times: the network connection and software update icons disappear from the lower right part of the panel.

I haven't figured out why, and how to get them back. Probably not very complicated, any pointers would be might appreciated!

How to determine LinuxLite version on an OFFLINE drive?
Posted by: PrivateTech - 10-09-2022, 06:24 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

Hello,
How do I find out which version of LinuxLite was installed on an off-line drive without booting from that drive?
The drive is no longer bootable, but files are accessible. It was taken from a computer that no longer operational.
Thank you.

  Linux light 6.0 video detection.
Posted by: Mike Iwantprivacy - 10-07-2022, 03:08 PM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (4)

So, I have an old dell 1700 laptop with a nvidia 8600 video card.
I was running 5.8 and the "install proprietary drivers function" worked and detected the card giving me the option to install the drivers.

I decided to try the new version but for some reason I am unable to install the proprietary drivers. It no longer detects them as available.

Any Ideas?

  Restoring Google Chrome at startup
Posted by: Natrixx - 10-07-2022, 02:52 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Hiya!

I just recently switched to Linux and was wondering about a very specific startup setup configuration I'd like to achieve. Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in.

Here's the situation. I usually run quite a few Chrome windows, scattered around 4-6 different workspaces. In each window there are quite a few tabs, grouped, of course! All the Chrome windows are named in order to quickly identify them. The windows are also attached to different profiles, at the moment 2.

I'd like to be able to restart my computer so that all the Chrome windows are restored and moved to the workspace they were on when I shut down the computer. Unfortunately I'm not fully there yet. Chrome starts up when i log in again, but the following is lacking:

1) Only the windows of one of the profiles are restored. A window opens under the other profile but it's only the base window. I have to go to History => Recently closed, select the latest window(s) and click Restore window. Not an impossible task but it would be sweet to have it done automatically.

2) All the windows are restored on the starting workspace, not on the ones they originally were on.

So, I'm probably looking for some settings I haven't found yet. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated!

Cheers,

  Mike

If Release Candidate installed, will updates bring it to stable release?
Posted by: PrivateTech - 10-06-2022, 09:43 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (2)

Hello,

If I install a Release Candidate, like LinuxLite 6.2 RC1, when the stable official 6.2 or newer are released, will the updates pick up the stable version and update from 6.2 RC1 to Stable 6.2 and it will continue to update normally within the series?

(P.S. I really wish an upgrade from series to series was possible through Update/Upgrade procedure without reinstallation or some workaround tricks.)

Thank you.
