I am attempting to salvage a very old laptop computer for myriad tasks and internet browsing. My laptop is a COMPAQ Presario V2000. (Model V2570NR) I've maxed out the RAM, (2 GB). It was running windows 7 up until I loaded Linuxliteos 5.4. I've since upgraded to Linuxliteos 5.8. I am terribly new to Linux, and have spent a great deal of time searching on line for different things related to Linux and the problems I have faced. I've searched the linuxliteos.com/forums often failing miserably in finding solutions, so this should let you know that I'm fighting an uphill battle.
Considering that I cut my PC teeth using PCDos, you would think I could adjust, but I've evidently been in a Windows environment long enough that retaining terminal command is difficult. I'm in the process of finding and reading books about the Ubuntu kernal and its variations. I'm sure you'll all be shaking your heads at the questions I raise, but please bear with me as I learn to use this system. I've got a couple of other PCs, also old, that I think may be able to run this OS once I've learned it.
I hope we have a long and beneficial relationship.
Chuck

Linux lite versions 3 and 4, allowed me to see how an update was progressing in a terminal.
Linux lite version 5, tells me what it will update, then disappears for what seems a long time and then finally says what it has updated.
I would like to see what it is doing real time, as it is doing it.
is there a way to do this.?

Hello everyone. :54:
When I run in the terminal:
I get the output:
Code: [9018:9051:0210/174210.531464:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(623)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get: object_path= /org/freedesktop/portal/desktop: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: No such interface "org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser"
[9018:9051:0210/174210.531548:ERROR:select_file_dialog_impl_portal.cc(243)] Failed to read portal version property.
libva error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init failed
[9060:9060:0210/174210.629570:ERROR:sandbox_linux.cc(377)] Called InitializeSandbox() with multiple threads in gpu-process.
And the browser does not open, I looked for the error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so init:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1923054
There they mention a custom file that as I understand it should not be there, however I don't know how they fixed it (answer in the last message)
I also looked for the bug: sandbox_linux.cc(377)] InitializeSandbox() called with multiple threads in process gpu-process, in this one propose to open chrome with the following parameters:
Code: google-chrome --disable-gpu --disable-software-rasterizer
However, it did not work, as they are not available:
Code: --incognito --no-proxy-server --proxy-auto-detect --proxy-server= --version
--new-window --password-store= --proxy-pac-url= --user-data-dir= --user-data-dir=
This error has happened to me before and I solved it by reinstalling the browser, but this time it didn't fix the problem when I reinstalled it, I have the latest version of Google Chrome (98.0.4758.80)

| Installing proprietary wifi drivers on a HP laptop |

I was trying to install Linux Lite on a new (to me) HP 17 laptop. It was able to connect via wifi with Windows 10 when I purchased it. This is a new installation, on a new SSD. Dual boot is not an option. I was able to connect via Ethernet, and install all of the updates. I was eventually able to find Software & Updates and install the proprietary drivers for RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter. During the installation process, I was asked for a password for something having to do with the UEFI. Unfortunately, I didn't take any notes or screenshots, so I don't remember exactly what was involved. I typed in the password in the clear (very unusual), and it wouldn't accept my regular user password, because it was too long (between 8 and 16 characters was the limit I was given). On reboot, I was given a window with 4 options. I chose "Boot", and the system than booted normally. Unfortunately, again, I didn't take any notes, so I don't remember what the other three options were (yes, I know, I should document everything). I still do not have the ability to see wireless networks. I have tried rebooting again, but I did not get the UEFI window. There is no 'switch' for the wifi that I can see. The F12 key has the icon of an airplane on it (airplane mode?), however it does not seem to have any affect.
Then I had a brainstorm. Through Software & Updates, I was able to remove the driver, and re-install. I was asked for a password again, and I rebooted. I chose the second boot option (enroll MOK), after viewing a screen or two, I was given the option of entering a password. This time, after booting, I have access to my wireless networks.
