How do I know if my Windows PC has UEFI?

In Windows Search, type msinfo or msinfo32 and launch the desktop app named System Information. Look for the BIOS Mode item, and if the value for it is UEFI, then you have the UEFI firmware. If it says BIOS Mode Legacy, then that’s the firmware you’re running.

Secure Boot is supported, but unless you know exactly how to handle it, it is a P.I.T.A. at best so I am going to say...you must disable Secure Boot to enable stress free computing.

Known Issues:

No prompt to eject Media at the end of the Legacy install, prompt is available at the end of the UEFI install.

Grub - press the ESC key whilst booting in UEFI mode after your BIOS has posted. Use the SHIFT key if running Linux Lite in Legacy mode.
Grub menu shows Linux Lite as 'Ubuntu'. After you install Linux Lite, you can change Grub to show 'Linux Lite' (See above for Lite Tweaks new Grub feature).

- Open /etc/default/grub as Administrator.
- Comment out: GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` and leave GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite' uncommented.
- Should look like:
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR='Linux Lite'

- sudo update-grub

I installed Linux Lite 5.6  on an old Medion Laptop - it works fine once started up but the boot process takes a long time.

Browsing the forum I tried a number of things but without any significant improvement.
Would someone have a piece of advice for me? Help would be highly appreciated!

I've installed 5.6 on a system that I am trying to run as a background server.  Periodically, it looks like the system goes into hibernation or sleep (not a laptop).  I've checked the BIOS for any power settings (there are none), and tried disabling all of the power saving features found in settings -> power manager.  I'm wondering if there is somewhere else I need to disable something?

I'm still trying to pinpoint the exact circumstances that see the hibernation.  I'm seeing the issue after I move it into it's final location.  It's working fine after the initial boot (and if I keep an active connection to it, it's been up for hours), but if I disconnect and leave it it drops off the network completely (port is down on the switch) which makes me think it's full hibernation.

I'm new to Linux Lite and I love it so far

I have an USB Headset (HyperX Cloud II) and everytime I reboot, it disappears from listed audio devices. If I unplug it and replug it, it reappears though.

I would like this to be consistent among reboots. Can you tell me how to manage that please ?

Why do I get multiple instances of the same device and how can I hide them?

The various scanner applications (XSANE, Simple scan, GIMP and so on), all show half a dozen or so "different" devices, when in reality there is only one.  Also, not all "devices" work.

For example, if I use Simple Scan, it gives me the following devices to select from:
EPSON ET-2720 Series:002:007
EPSON network scanner
EPSON PID
ESCL EPSON ET-2720 Series
ESCL EPSON ET-2720 Series SSL
ESCL EPSON ET-2720 Series [5839454A3039313612]

However, only the ones with ESCL in the name work.

Then, when I use GIMP, which calls up XSANE, it again lists them, but with slightly different names:

Hi, linux noob here. Lately, I have been getting extremely slow internet speed with linux. My router is working fine as i have already checked with other devices. I am on wifi most of the time, and the slow speed is really pissing me off. Please help  :60:

One of the early reasons that I found as an advantage of Linux is the catagorizing of the menu system. I had that (again) when I started using Linux Lite. But something has happened to my menu, and I don't know what caused it.

I have two identical computers, both running LL5, and both have almost all the same added and subtracted programs. The #2 computer is mostly a backup for the #1 unit. After I installed LL on both, I went through most of the options in the Settings to get the OS to be as I wished. After that, I mostly ignored all the items in Settings.

A few days ago, it was obvious that the entire menu had changed on the #1 computer that I use daily: Left and right had changed places, the word "Menu" to the right of the menuing LL feather had disappeared, the little group of icons just above that was now on the upper right, and the icons for each catagory's programs had at least doubled in size. The #2 unit still has the menu as it was installed and customized.

I CAN deal with this as it is, but I much prefer the way it all was when I installed LL and did the customization that I wanted. Can I do this?

In a search here, one person said that he uninstalled Whisker Menu, then re-installed it, and it solved his problem. I am reluctant to do this in case the new installation does not show  the added programs and does show the deleted programs.

Can I copy the menu [and its config file(s)] from the #2 computer to the #1? If so, where in the directories are they located and what are their names?

I do know that I can just do a full new installation, but that is like rebuilding a car engine when it only needs new spark plugs.

Thanks in advance for any solution to this. If anyone also wants to explain how this happened, I am curious about that, as I know I didn't do anything intentional to cause it.

I installed LL on 2 PCs, on the old one all is ok,
on the new one suddenly I can't no more log-in.

Every time that I insert the pwd the system seems to login, but after changing the background image as for connecting,
it return to the pwd request.

I'm sure that the pwd is correct because is the same as the older pc.

Now I'm as root.
when I try to start the 'User Settings' it is working in loop and the cursor is 'rolling'.
I tried to change/add the data for the user from Terminal but nohting...
New user appear in the list but I can't have access to my LL.


How can I do to resolve?
I'm not an expert user, so, pls, be very clear!

This may have been asked many times, but I'm unable to find a clear answer.

I can't find a way of listing files using Thunar by filetype or date order (as this makes file management easier). This has been tried on 3 PC's approx specs 2.7GHz twin core processor, 4Gb RAM running LL 5.6. Edit> Select by Pattern does not appear to do this. A general web search suggested that Linux generally does not permit one to list files in this way. Is this correct, or am I missing the obvious or otherwise mistaken?

Please let me know if possible, bearing in mind that I have no knowledge of programming, or the right mindset to comprehend code.
