Linux Lite Series 3.x End of Life 1st April 2021
Posted by: valtam - 03-22-2021, 11:04 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

Linux Lite Series 3.x including the following releases - 3.0 3.2 3.4 3.6 and 3.8 as of April 1st 2021, will no longer be supported in any way.

That means no updates, no bug fixes for Linux Lite created software, no patches, no new software.

This also marks the end of 32bit Kernel builds.

If you are currently running a release from Series 3.x you have 2 choices. Run it without a network connection (turn your pc off when you are not infront of it), move to a higher Series (highly recommended). Anyone with physical access to your pc running Series 3.x can take advantage of ongoing unfixed bugs and security holes. Make sure your password is unhackable (18+ characters, upper, lower case, alphanumeric).

Make the sensible choice, move on to a higher Series before 1st April 2021.

If you are unsure if your hardware will run on Series 4.x or 5.x check your if hardware is listed here first - https://www.868212.xyz/hardware.php

Hallo zusammen,

Dank Euch!

Gruß

  HP DeskJet 3700 printer/scanner issue
Posted by: Jan Cerveny - 03-19-2021, 11:28 AM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (19)

Hi, here is my problem. OS recognizes the printer (like 3700 ser.), but does not print/scan (message "Printer may not be connected" in Printer-settings dialog window or Print Queue).
I'm trying to install latest HPLIP from https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imagi...g/gethplip, but the process stucks in the phase:

RUNNING HPLIP LIBS COMMANDS
sudo apt-get remove libhpmud0 libsane-hpaio printer-driver-postscript-hp

Anybody have an advice/solution pls??? Thank you! JC

LL5.2 slowing down, erratic behavior and freezes both in booting and performance
Posted by: litecub - 03-18-2021, 08:06 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (1)

Hi,

I am a LL newbie, so maybe I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

I have Linux Lite 5.2, multiboot, on my notebook (for specifications please see the end of my post). I am using LL since a few weeks along with Ubuntu 18.04, Debian 10 and 11 and Windows 10. Bootup speed and performance were ok first, but lately booting takes ages, shows a lot of "FAILED" lines until it reaches login; and after that the system freezes occasionally unexpectedly, sometimes so stubborn that <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<F2> has no effect at all and only a hard switch off is a rescue. Generally, the performance during normal use is slower. The other multiboot distros seem to be unaffected (only Win10 has been always slow, anyway).

What could be the reason and could that be amended, please?

Thanks, litecub

P.P.S. Neither the Preview button nor "shift+alt+p" to preview have any effect on my forum thread Sad

  Install Updates
Posted by: LarryB1607 - 03-17-2021, 05:50 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (8)

Would like to see available updates listed after requesting them.  Then require signin if one wants to install them.  Now I need to authenticate before even seeing if any are available and sometimes there are none.  Makes for a wasted login.  I do have notifications for this enabled, but the lowest I could set it for is 1 hour and I might miss the notification.

Thanks

Brother printer: how to install both as USB and as wireless?
Posted by: litecub - 03-16-2021, 07:54 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (3)

Hi,
I am running Linux Lite 5.2, and I am new to it (but not to Ubuntu and Debian). Linux Lite was love at first sight Smile

Thanks to the excellent https://www.868212.xyz/forums/print.../#msg27370 I could easily install my Brother MFC-J497DW as a wireless printer, i.e., specified IB address. However, sometimes I have to use it without net in USB mode. While it was equally easy to install my printer with USB mode, following the link above, I could not install two different printers at the same time, one for WiFi and one for USB. The problem is, each time I install the USB type, it will make the wireless disappear, and vice versa. It is very annoying to do a new install each time I need a different mode. Viz. with my HP Deskjet 2630 and hplip it is an easy task to accomplish this, creating just two different named printers from one machine.

Question
Does anybody here know, please, how to do this with a Brother printer?

Thanks,

litecub
