Hello All,
Thank you for putting together an excellent linux distribution.
I switched from Windows 10 to linux lite. I switched my desktop and two laptops over to LL. Even with my main Desktop machine Win10 was kind of slow and bloaty. Win10 would also reboot my machine. Now on all machines everything is snappy fast. It's a beautiful looking distro and I love the feather, kind of sums up what LL is about.
I really became motivated to change to linux when I went to my town dump and picked up a couple of laptops people were throwing away. My conclusion was that people were throwing
good hardware away because it ran slow on windows. What a waste.
I hope to contribute to the community when I get a little bit more experience with linux. I am a fairly competent programmer (C, python) so I hope I can help out.
Thanks again,
Joe McCarron, New Hampshire, USA

dpkg problem installing software

Sorry, I'm new to Linux Lite (and not an experienced Linux user anyway), so my question may be trivial.
I installed the system (4.4) and initially had no problems installing software. Today, however, I tried to add some more soft, and I got the following reaction:
dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
Both Lie Software and system Install/Remove Software yielded the same result.
So what should I do? Run this command in the terminal window? Should I register as root for this purpose (if yes, how to do it?)

New Install Won't Composite

Hello,
Once I got Lite up and running, I moved the tool bar to the top and then installed Cairo-Dock. However, it's framed by a very large black box. When a dialog box opened asking if I wanted to enable compositing, I clicked on the green check, but then the dock went away. I checked the Compiz icon, but compositing is turned on. It's also turned on in the Cairo-Dock control panel. I'm using an old nVidia 5200 video card. Does that card not have enough horsepower to composite
thanks

TomTom 'MyDriveConnect' on V-Box and WINE

I have never thusfar been using WINE, do not know how it looks like, how does it set up. When it comes though to my GPS device, it relies on 'MyDriveConnect' software from TomTom. I would say that it is pretty unfortunate, but as far as I am concerned, no GPS producer ever supports Linux, unless Linux reaches some more significant market share of the home PC users. For now, I am employing an access to an old 32-bit Windows 7 PC for the sake of GPS update, albeit first, it would be better if I got self sufficient with the Linux and what it does offer, second thing, I am afraid this Windows 7 PC may get 'decomissioned' eventually. Like, if I wanted to install Linux on it, I would basically shoot my foot, when it comes to Windows only software, such as the mentioned 'MyDriveConnect'.
It came to my knowledge I have two ways to solve the issue. First is to set up a Virtual Box with GNOME tools and some Windows image, which is perhaps a more complicated procedure, but is confirmed to work. Second, is to use WINE, which - on the other hand - is unconfirmed to solve the problem with 'MyDriveConnect' on Linux.
Does anyone have any experience in getting WINE to run quirky apps?

Hi Chaps.
I have the following error when running chirpw from the Terminal:
Gtk-WARNING **: 18:32:01.074: Locale not supported by C library.
Using the fallback 'C' locale.
It doesn't seem to cause any trouble with the program, and as far as can tell my language settings are correctly set to English UK.
I did a search of the forum, but couldn't see the issue posted before.
I apologize if I've missed it.
Cheers.
Dirk.
