Would it be possible to add an extra field to include whether the LL version being used is 32 or 64 bit?

Hi I'm a window's user for all my life. I finally tried Linux Lite 2.6 yesterday, as a first time user i was amazed with the improvements of linux over the years. I can now revive old laptops and desktops with this. To the Linux Lite group you guys rock! Thank you so much!

Why does Chrome ask for my (GNOME) keyring password?
Posted by: Colin23erk - 11-12-2015, 08:06 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I Love computers and the problems they cause me . I am seriously thinking of exchanging them for two bricks to bang my head against . Much cheeper and without the frustration using a computer . Every solution to a problem seams to lead to them  having their  own problems - and so on  .
[/size]
[/size]Maybe when they crack the Artificial Intelligent Programming we will get a computer that can  communicate properly between them and us humans and let us know where we are going wrong rater than keeping things secret.
[/size]
[/size]I recently needed to reinstall LL after a Lock out situation (other post)
[/size]Now w[/size]hy does Chrome ask for my ( GNOME ? ) keyring  password?) I am sure I got rid of the prompt a long time ago so I have forgotten how.
[/size]
[/size]My understanding is that LL uses Xlce and not Gnome so why do I need a Gnome keyring -  I live alone do I need it [/size]anyway on my home system.
[/size]
[/size]What function does it serve as it makes no difference if I Cancel or enter  the password
[/size]
[/size]Can it be defeated or uninstalled using a GUI method
[/size]
[/size]Also as I had no part (knowingly) in its set up I can only guessed it was the same as Sign-in and Administrator one . But as I have already used it to Sign-in why do I need to use it again
What is confusing to this  silver (thick)headed person is ,if there is only one password in the system why don't all the programs that use it call it by the same name .

[/size]With regard to the Administrators Password whilst I can see the need in a work environment to  use it every time  it is  needed but I would like it to be remembered for the full session.Sadder but no wiser after a month of toil ,Colin [size=medium]

  PS3 media server support?
Posted by: EagleyeSask - 11-12-2015, 05:54 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

I'm new to Linux and about to install Linux Lite on a computer. My question is what software should I or could I use to create a media server that is PS3 compatible as well as Windows and Android?
The reason I decided to try Linux Lite is for a few reasons:

  1. No direct connection to the TV except through the PS3
  2. The need for stability of Linux and the small distro for possible older computer
Also if possible is there possibility of having a printer shared as said computer has a LPT and the better computer doesn't? HP Laserjet 5P

Specs of computer:
  • AMD Athlon 64+ 3200+
  • 2.5 GB RAM
  • 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro
Thanks in advance for any and all help in these matters.

  File search
Posted by: paul1149 - 11-11-2015, 01:46 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I'm looking for a way to search for files. In Windows I used Find and Run Robot, or Everything File Search, both of which are excellent.

So far I've found the mlocate terminal command. This works, but it's output is messy:

Code:
paul@Precision:~$ mlocate -0 listing.ott
/home/paul/Templates/listing.ott/seagate100/paul(FreeFileSync)/.local/share/Trash/files/listing.ott/seagate100/paul(FreeFileSync)/.local/share/Trash/info/listing.ott.trashinfo/seagate100/paul(FreeFileSync)/Templates/listing.ott/seagate400/PCTools/enhancements/apps/libreoffice/Templates/listing.ott/wd2t/Precision tower/FFS(daily_mirror)/Templates/listing.ott/wd2t/seagate400-bu/PCTools/enhancements/apps/libreoffice/Templates/listing.ottpaul@Precision:~$

[/size][size=78%]Is there any way to at least get the hits one-per-line?[/size]
[/size]
[/size][size=78%]Then I cam across this answer. It's a script. Can someone tell me how to set this up? I haven't a clue.[/size]
[/size]
[/size]
[/size][size=78%]BTW, when I just used the <code> tag, I executed it first, without any selected text. The tags came in reversed (closed, then opened), and the second one was this smaller font. I'm going to leave this as-is for troubleshooting.[/size]

  Can't follow install prompts
Posted by: pelouk - 11-11-2015, 10:17 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (51)

I'm trying to install LL2.4 from a disk on an HP Slimline desktop with an Acer monitor.

I seem to have a problem in that the monitor is an older 4:3 format and I cannot see all of the install prompts. It doesn't help either that my mouse won't scroll down and my arrows are not functioning in install mode but I 'm not sure if that's relevant.

Can anyone help, please?

  Ransomware On Linux
Posted by: Jocklad - 11-09-2015, 09:13 PM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Just came across this on a BBC tech page.

Quote:Ransomware is proving increasingly popular with hi-tech thieves and one group has now extended its list of potential targets to web servers that run Linux.

A worrying prospect.

LL Update appearing when function is unbound?
Posted by: Duckeenie - 11-09-2015, 07:21 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

I'm not sure if I've broken something or this is a bug but lately I've been noticing lite update appearing when I try to execute an unbound function.

It does it when I try to open unbound file-types in Thunar. It also does it when I select help from the menu of medit.
