DVD installation freezes at Welcome screen

My install freezes at the Welcome screen. I'm a Linux newbie and wanted to reclaim a dust-covered 32-bit Toshiba laptop (2GB) to experiment with Linux and determine if I like it enough to convert my other pc's. After burning two DVD's with ImgBurn I get the same results: When I boot into start-up with DVD, I hit any key to get to the Welcome screen and the system freezes after choosing 'Start Linux Lite'. Or, if I let it tick down the 10 seconds, it simply shows the feather logo next to the words 'Linux Lite' on a blank screen. I'm stumped; I can't find anything online regarding a similar issue and hope someone here can help. Thanks!

Greetings Earthlings...
Have been using Linux Lite 1.0.8 for about 6 months... (So is my wife... but don't tell her that... it was a shock when her Icons changed... but I said it was the 'new' Windows 7 !)
Have just been downloading v2.0 and decided to join the Forum while it was happening.
Congratulations (in advance) on v2.0... the website shows a great new distro... I look forward to working with it in the next couple of hours.

[Request] Home Server Tutorial

This is a request for a tutorial, I would really like to use linux lite as a home server as it run with very low overhead, I have never ran a home server, but word on the street is linux distro's are perfect for running them. Wanting to know if anyone has setup a home server with linux lite(or ubuntu derivatives) and if they wouldn't mind taking the time to write a tutorial on how one would go about making one with linux lite.
Now because I have never ran a home server I am not sure of all the options available for linux, but the following things would be nice...
* File server
* Torrent down loader
* Streaming media(videos,music streamed to TV and other devices)
* Static IP so you can access files outside of your network VPN?
they are the main functions I can think of, I am sure there is more things you can do with a home server, It would be nice to administrate all this from a web panel or something similar that is simple to use, But still secure.
I personally would be very grateful for a tutorial as I am sure others would be also.

How to run UNetbootin

I have installed UNetbootin from the Synaptic Package Manager and everything seems to be alright. I even updated all software prior to installing the said program. But when i try to run the program from either the main menu or a terminal all i get is a window called: UNetbootin Uninstaller which states UNetbootin is currently installed. Remove the existing version?
All i want to do is run the program in order to put a Linux distro on my USB Drive!

I have Linux Lite installed on a couple of old computers at home. On one of them the default folder which opens is /home/myname/ and is relatively clean, mostly folders for my files like Documents, Photos, Downloads, Videos etc
On the other machine when I open the folder /home/myname/ it seems to have a lot of folders for programs that I have installed, with names like .mozilla, .gimp, .adobe, etc and it is very cluttered.
I can't find any difference in the way these accounts are set up, each only has one user (me). Can anyone help with this?

Release Announcement
Linux Lite 2.0 Codename 'Beryl' is now available for download.
This build is the work of 4 months of constant development and the implementation of the best ideas from the team and the wider community. This also marks the beginning of our own repositories for our custom software so that changes and improvements to the operating system can be offered regularly. Now Lite User Manager, Lite Manual, Lite Software ( Install Additional Software and Remove Additional Software) and Lite Fix can evolve more easily to meet the needs of the user.
In this release we wanted to combine the newest versions of well established and supported software like LibreOffice, VLC, Wine and Gimp so that people have access to the latest features in those programs. In Linux Lite 2.0 you get the carefully crafted combination of current software in certain programs on top of a stable operating system. We think this is the happy medium people are looking for between long term support whilst also having 'the newest stuff'.
What's new:
Linux Lite repositories.

Both of these iso's come in at 700mb, that's cutting it close to mark when it comes to fitting a modern operating system onto a cd.
As a result we've had to search the entire filesystem for where we can make savings. One of those areas was the icon cache files. To regenerate these cache files which should give you a performance boost, enter the following command after a fresh install of Linux Lite 2.0:
Code: sudo su
gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/Faenza/ && gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/gnome/ && gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/Humanity && gtk-update-icon-cache /usr/share/icons/Humanity-Dark/
Flash for older machines:
We now have a custom package for older machines that are struggling to play flash content.
Here's how to get it installed. Open a terminal and do:
Code: sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-installer -y && sudo apt-get install flashplugin-legacy

Live USB/DVD/VirtualBox/Vmware: Login is automatic, no credentials required.
The image can be written to a 2gb or larger USB stick, or a writable CD or DVD.
Alternatively, you can use the dd command: sudo dd if=linux-lite-2.0-32bit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M where 'x' is the letter of your usb stick.
In linux to find out the letter of your usb stick, open a terminal and type: df -h It is usually listed as 'media' or similar.
Please see the built in Help & Support manual if you require a more detailed explanation of this procedure.
There is no upgrade process from one Linux Lite version to the next because of all the in-between modifications. If 1.0.6 or 1.0.8 is working well for you stick to that, otherwise you will have to clean install 2.0. The dark theme is still available from the Settings Manager for those who prefer it, but you will notice that volume icon in the tray appears white, this is a theming issue. All Ubuntu 32bit kernels these days ship with PAE, we will not be creating any more PAE builds, it's time to move on.
Recommended Hardware/Minimal System requirements:
700 MHz processor+
512 MB RAM+
5 GB of hard-drive space+
VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution
Either a CD drive or a USB port for the iso
Login to the live desktop is automatic.
The first thing you MUST do after a fresh install of Linux Lite is run Menu, Favorites, Install Updates.

Lite Fix: This is a tool for new users to easily fix common issues without needing to go to the command line. As common issues come to the fore, a fix for these will be added as a new menu entry into Lite Fix. (Lite fix is not installed by default because there are no fixes available in the program yet)
