  usb drive disapears overnight
Posted by: Dave Adam - 11-14-2020, 12:46 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (9)

I tried reading some of the previous post about drives, but didn't find anything that worked.  If I missed one I'm sorry.

A couple of months ago I could live my computer on for weeks and my usb external hard drive would stay connected.  Now if I leave it sit for any length of time I have to hard boot my computer in order to get it to work again.  I feel like it is going to sleep or something, I can't even use terminal when this happens as it is all jambed up. And the restart function just goes to a blank page until I hard boot and start over.

I don't use my computer for a lot so I guess it's not an end of life thing, but it is anoying.

Any one have an idea what setting I need to change?

Thanks,

  Ayuda con teclado USB
Posted by: Malkav Ïan - 11-14-2020, 08:36 AM - Forum: Spanish [Spanish] - Replies (10)

Posted by: Moltke - 11-13-2020, 06:45 PM - Forum: Spanish [Spanish] - Replies (1)

A Español

Problem with wbar-config after installing Wbar
Posted by: mccfrank - 11-13-2020, 04:30 PM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Installed one of my favorite docks...wbar... after initial installation of 5.2.
Setup was more or less fine, but now wen I click on the icon wbar provides to
add or edit applications, the screen comes up but it is not responsive for up to
30 seconds. Then it becomes active and can be used fine.

I know this application is old...as far as I know it hasn't been updated
since 2012 or 2013, but I also have it on my Debian Bullseye and Fedora 33 partitions
and there are no problems with it there.

wbar-config is the problem.

In addition I installed Rox-filer oday and found similar lag problems.
The common thread is that they both use GTK2-0. Other GTK3-0
software doesn't exhibit this problem.

Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have a possible solution ??

Thanks

  Software List
Posted by: barnaby - 11-13-2020, 04:04 PM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

I currently use MX but I am planning to get a new, small, laptop to be more easily carried around. I  have use Lite in the past, so I am wondering about installing v 5.2 on the new computer. Therefore I  am wondering if there is a list anywhere of which programs are automatically installed right from the start. For example, I do a lot with Python, so it would be useful to see which version, if any, is present at installation. So, please, is there a list anywhere? Thanks.

Installing Linux Lite on VirtualBox Virtual Machine / MacOS ?
Posted by: Quouab - 11-13-2020, 03:31 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (21)

Currently using Lubuntu 18.10 as a 21Gb VM in VirtualBox 4.3.40, which I think is the last version to run in Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (16Gb RAM). Trying to install Linux Lite for the sake of two Linux-only small applications, but so far I've only managed to have it crash as soon as it launches. I cannot copy and paste the resulting error code, but I'll post a screenshot if needed (80Kb).

So, is it possible to run Linux Lite under those conditions? If yes, are the clipboards and the drag-and-drop functions fully bi-directional (only one way clipboard is working between Lubuntu and MacOS). And: what are the basic start-up settings to get it running?

Note that I have no understanding of terminal code (another reasons for wanting to find a replacement for Lubuntu.)

I managed to download and install libreoffice but having a dickens of a time with the data base i keep getting this message:
The connection to the data source" New database could not be established
The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the URL'sdbc:embedded:hsqldb'./build/-libreoffice-JOLMwH/libreoffice-7.0.3/connectivity/source/commontools/-dbexceptions.cxx:399

I have no idea what this means and it happens when I try to create a new database with wizard or other assistance

Does any one know what the hell is going on ? I can use all the other programs this only happens with base !!

  Linux Lite Achieves Its Goal
Posted by: trinidad - 11-12-2020, 05:51 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (8)

I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with this system. I have used every version of LL since 2.6 and watched as LL progressed toward its goals. No Linux distribution achieves keeping a new user out of the CLI more successfully than Linux Lite 5. As far as I am concerned this in itself makes it by far the most new user friendly Linux system available today for new users coming from Windows. In the office, MS has had a stranglehold for years. Newly hired workers spent hours in classes learning how to use MS software but never received any real instruction on how to administer an MS system. Most new users coming from Windows are of that ilk, and Linux Lite provides them with the easiest potential transition from Windows to a superior Linux product. Simple touches matter to Windows refugees, and thoughtfully selected desktop software like Lite Tweaks and Lite Updates are of inestimable value to them. I am a long time Debian user and probably always will be as long as development continues, but I always recommend and install Linux Lite for Linux beginners. It truly is a beautifully simple and functional system that they always seem to intuitively find their way in.
