Tried several ways to download Olive edition software and always get "cannot find olive-editing" replay. Going to Olive site and copy/past commands give the same results.
Ideas?

Executive summary:

Once an installation (from a thumb drive with persistence) goes bad, it can work the next time if (only if) the thumb drive is reflashed. Errors, inaccurate settings, and incorrectly recorded data seem to be introduced through the persistence implementation. The errors don't show up on the install screen and they don't ever go away. So, reflash and restart the installation.

I spent three days hammering away at this one, and now I believe I have data that proves that there are problems that exist in the way the installer's partitioning portion of the installation inaccurately records the partition information which gets maintained from session to session when booting from a live thumb drive.

What am I saying?

Running from a thumb drive, once the install starts going south, stop what you're doing, reflash your thumb drive, and start all over again. The errors that stop the thumb drive install (with persistence) won't go away, nor are they displayed on the screen accurately, so stop, recreate a virgin thumb drive with persistence, and begin again. That's what worked for me, two different times, once I figured out where the problem existed.

Next time, I might even consider creating the thumb drive without any persistence, since it seems to be something in the persistence implementation that's not working right, something elusive which raised its ugly head and kept me from being able to install the LL 5.2 for three days.

From the installation partitioning portion of the software, it'll show an incorrect partition type, and yet it looks like it appears to be reporting it correctly... when it's not. That was really, really frustrating.

Quitting out of the installer and running gparted would show different partition formats--that was the nail in the coffin. I ran gparted and it showed a partition with an ntsf format, but opening the installer it displayed an edi format for the same partition. Weird. At this point, I was getting odd error messages during the attempted installation, saying that some of my partitions weren't able to mount. Frustrating again.

I cannot say it's the installer, or if it's the Rufus 2.8 I used to create the install thumb drive that's introducing the problem or problems.

The MD5 checksums of the DLed .iso file checked out, but when I ran the MD5 checksums from the thumb drive--which is does on every startup--it reported that there was an error in one of the files. I wasn't able to find out which file it was that held the error. The thumb drive had a full compliment of write and read tests done to confirm that it was a viable device.

I'm hoping, of course, that by reporting this that it can help others nail down their installation problems.

I have tried several linux distros and really like this one. I am an old windows user fro dos to win 10. Tired of the problems with windows and looking forward to learning something new. I am 74 years old and travel in an rv. Yes I am retired. 8)

Hi, guys,I cleaned installed linux-lite 5.2 64bit to an old xp desktop with 2G ram. I know, it should be a 32bit iso, but it doesn't work that good either. It's graphics card is an oldie and not an easy one to find software online for and install. The software I do find is for older Ubuntu distros and is in tar.gz form. Linux-lite and several other linux distros, even Puppy Linux, I have tried give me only part of the video driver, (I think it's openchrome or something) to use which does help with the display size, but online video is so very choppy. This graphics card is:

I'm not that knowledgeable about linux systems. Any help would be so nice. I just hate the choppy online thing going on. I know it's just the video card driver. It does have AMD cpu but that crazy graphics card. Would an amd driver work instead?Thanks, Karen

I am new both to the forums and a relative newb to Linux. I installed LL 5.0 on an older laptop (Dell Inspiron 1525, Intel Duo Core). I really like LL, but it was booting up very slowly (up to 3 minutes). I deleted LL, replaced it with Puppy Linux, but I'd rather have LL again (as the only distro --and only OS-- on my hard drive).

After searching the forum for a solution, I noticed that the release notes for 4.0 included a solution for this problem, as follows:

What's the name of the bg pattern that displays on the screen on startup, and how is that created, programmatically or tiled image, or other?

If I run LL live on a thumb drive, is there a way to start the installer from that live session, or do I have to log out and reboot to access the installation start option from the thumb drive's boot option menu?

I looked at the 'all application' and 'system' list but found nothing helpful. The Synaptic installer seemed hopeful, and a few others looked potentially promising, but it looks like it's been set up so I'll have to reboot, probably because of the need to unmount drives and partitions.

(Posted on reddit, but I received no answer, so I'm posting here. I did do a search here on LL, but... no joy.)

I installed LL on an ITX motherboard system with an LG touchscreen, portrait-oriented monitor, then went to Settings > Display to rotate it. Cool. The mouse works as expected, but I wasn't ready to have the touch screen broken out as its own x,y-oriented device.

So now, when I use the mouse, everything's great. When I tap the screen, however, the touch screen still registers unrotated touches, 90° off where they're expected. Quirky-funny, too, in a nerdy sort of way--"Oh, yeah? Take that, and that, and that-that-that!"

I peeked into the virtual screen settings, and found two locations where there were *rotate* values set to zero, I changed them to 90, but got zero change, so I set them back. I thought about needing to reboot, but figured it wouldn't be necessary.

Any suggestions where to go poking around to marry up the touch screen with its touches so the mouse and touch coincide?
